Description

Abell 85 or also designated as CTB-1 is a supernova remnant in the constellation Cassiopeia, it is also known by several nicknames such as the Garlic, Medulla, or Popped Ballon Nebula. This image was taken over several different sessions starting at the end of November 2022 until February 2023. I utilized several software applications for pre/post-processing. Astropixel Processor for integration, and this was my first use of GraXpert for background extraction to remove gradients, this was done to each RGB and NB linear image (a nice free tool and did great work). The core of the post-work was done in Pixinsight, including BlurXterminator for deconvolution before combining the images, color calibration, and stretching. Followed by NoiseXterminator for noise reduction, and StarXterminator to remove the stars from the HOO image and add the RGB stars with PixelMath.

It was really an unexpected treat to see that I was able to pull out planetary nebula, PK116+00.1 after doing another round of post-processing in Pixinsight and focusing more on the Ha in my final version.

Huge Thank You, Russell Croman, @ rc-astro.com for some amazing tools, they make the work of creating these images a lot more enjoyable.

Clear Skies everyone!
